As Chandrayaan-3 is all set to create history by landing on the uncharted south pole of the Moon, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Tuesday said that "Jo Aadharshila (foundation stone) Nehru Ji ne rakha, aaj world mein danka baja raha hai'".

Chandrayaan-3's Lander Module (LM) - lander Vikram and rover Pragyan - is scheduled to make a touch down near the lunar south pole at 6.04 pm on Wednesday.

Chandrayaan-3 LIVE Updates: D-day of India's ambitious mission to Moon has arrived as Chandrayaan-3 will attempt to land on the moon's south pole on Wednesday. If successful, the mission will be an entry ticket for India in the list of countries who have mastered the technology of soft landing on the lunar surface after the US, China, and the Soviet Union.

Given the history of India's second lunar mission, which failed during the last 20 minutes before landing, ISRO is extra-cautious this time in the process. Due to high risk to the spacecraft minutes before moon landing, the duration is dubbed by many as "20 or 17 minutes of terror". During this phase, the whole process will become autonomous, where Vikram lander has to ignite its own engines at the right times and altitudes.

What ISRO said: ISRO on Tuesday said everything was going as per plan and the “mission is on schedule”.  Ahead of its landing, the lander module established contact with the Chandrayaan-2 lunar orbiter yesterday, opening up another line of communication with Earth. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) said the orbiter greeted the lander with the message “welcome, buddy”. ISRO also posted images of the far side of the Moon captured by the lander.

Chandrayaan-3 Landing May Be Postponed

ISRO has announced that if any factor regarding the lander module appears unfavourable, the Chandrayaan-3 landing plans may be pushed to August 27. 

Chandrayaan-3 is expected to land on the lunar south pole on August 23, 2023, at around 6:04 pm IST. If Chandrayaan-3 successfully lands on the Moon's south pole, India will become the first country to softly land a spacecraft on the lunar south pole, and the fourth country to achieve a soft landing on the Moon, after the United States, the Soviet Union, and China. Most lunar missions attempt landings on the lunar south pole because the region is a treasure trove of scientific secrets and cosmic mysteries.
